Eye problems are a common ailment among pet turtles. Aquatic and terrestrial turtles are known for their eyes swelling if the conditions in which they are kept aren’t quite right. Box turtles and aquatic turtles are susceptible to ear abscesses, which can cause eye swelling. Eye problems are usually curable, but they can lead to serious health problems if left untreated.

Pharmacological effects

Neomycin belongs to the aminoglycoside antibiotics, and its antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of kanamycin. It has a strong antibacterial effect on most Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella and Pasteurella multocida, and is also sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus. Pseudomonads aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), Rickettsia, anaerobic bacteria and fungi are resistant to neomycin.

1. The antibacterial effect of this product is enhanced in an alkaline environment. When used in combination with alkaline drugs (such as sodium bicarbonate, aminophylline, etc.), the antibacterial effect can be enhanced, but the toxicity is also increased accordingly. When the pH value exceeds 8.4, the antibacterial effect is weakened.

2. Cations such as Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, NH3+ and K+ can inhibit the antibacterial activity of this product.

3. The ototoxicity of this product may be enhanced when used in combination with cephalosporins, dextran, strong diuretics (such as furosemide), erythromycin, etc.

4. Skeletal muscle relaxants (such as succinylcholine chloride, etc.) or drugs with such effects can enhance the neuromuscular blocking effect of this product.

Dosage

Put this to a cotton bud and apply to tortoise eye, daily 2-3 times after dry up 1 hour, put the tortoise back to water.

In case worst condition add 0.5 ml per when changing the water. Usually every 7-10 days to stabilize the water quality.
